Learning systems and training modalities have changed for the past years, particularly with the global pandemic that we are experiencing right now. In addition, industrial applications have emerged to adapt to the current developments in industry known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution or IR4.0.

With the rise of the 4th Industrial Revolution, manufacturing and other industrial sectors are expected to devise policies and applications to adapt to this transformation. Industry 4.0 is characterized by the seamless integration of software, equipment and people that increases the reliability, speed and flow of information between all systems. Hence, not just that we expect companies to upgrade equipment, we expect them to require engineers and technical workers to be Industry 4.0-certified.

Companies are expected to widely use cloud technology, human machine interface, artificial intelligence, automatic feedback and smart device technology. Information can be simply stored and accessed via cloud technology, while monitoring and controlling the machines can be remotely accessed and performed through smart devices such as mobile phones and tablets. Automatic feedback serves an essential part in the industrial process to easily detect and solve machine and process problems. This enables predictive, preventive and corrective feedback and allows self-correction. A wide application and utilization of artificial intelligence will also be expected, as development of intelligent machines and robots progresses.

Smart factories will also be the new and next normal. These factories aim at optimizing processes through interoperable systems, ensuring real-time control and monitoring of production stages called Manufacturing Execution System (MES). Industry 4.0 and the emerging internet of things (IoT) offers higher quality product at lower operating expenses. These technologies enable manufacturers to collect, analyze and act on immense collection of data like never before, and then perform necessary processes with highly efficient automated robots.

The education sector will go along with these industrial trends and developments. Thus, a wide use of online learning management systems and hands on simulations is expected. Similarly, industry-validated curriculum infused in elearning platform is a must for science, technology, engineering and other fields. These systems and contents under the broader system called Education 4.0 are already available in the market to prepare our graduates for skills and applications needed in the industry.
